In today’s endless stream of Marvel and DC blockbusters, it seems the concept of “alternate superheroes” has vanished. Before superhero fatigue kicked in, studios were more inclined to take risks on fresh, lesser-known comic heroes.

With films like Kick-Ass, Super, Darkman, and Chronicle, audiences proved a strong appetite for superhero stories beyond the Marvel/DC universe. Yet, somewhere along the line, this trend faded.
