In the 1990s, filmmakers embraced significant risks. Diverse films, from Forrest Gump to Pulp Fiction to Billy Madison, all found their audiences in theaters. Mid-budget dramas, studio comedies, and genre films weren't just present; they were Hollywood's backbone.

Today, these medium-scale films have nearly disappeared.
